probably not. I always feel a sense of mediocrity in retrospect when analysing my attempts at poetry.

sometimes you just want to ... write. and the fulfillment of that desire is sometimes reward enough :)

it takes a long time to get to know a person, you could literally spend a lifetime with them and then one day, just out of the blue, be floored by a sudden realisation or revelation.
and people change all the time, in subtle, discreet ways. the facts we come to take for granted are really nothing but assumptions with varying degrees of correlation with reality.
but we are hopelessly relational beings and we will always be trying. with some more than others, certainly, depending on inclination.
that's why we write, to communicate, to create a narrative coherent to ourselves and hopefully at least a few others.
keep reading, keep writing, life's not all bad!

1. it is pretty rare for a PRC to get a non-bonded scholarship. Most of them are bonded for 6 years, even PhD students.

2. Scholars do not get access to special resources. They get the same education as everyone else, and certainly never accelerated to the degree of this kid. They just get money to do it. I find this argument biased and whiny, though there is a case in there...only somewhat clouded by frustration.

3. MOE has some good officers...and the rest just become part of the bureaucracy. Initiative is still shaped along bureaucratic lines, which deal with national systems and not individual concerns. And this might not be a bad thing, though I have my criticisms of it too. That's what a bureaucracy is for in the end--the big picture. There's too much bureaucratic inertia to accomodate a child prodigy. This is probably the same in any country, and my guess is that child prodigies, even in other places, are aided by sympathetic private institutions or public institutions with enlightened administrators.

I am led to question the equality of the intrinsic value of a human life, and whether I have the authority, if given the opportunity, to save one at the expense of another's. (inaction is also a choice that has the consequence of letting 5 die)

If the intrinsic value of a human life is equal to the value of another's - ceteris paribus, I would choose to save the 5 at the expense of the 1. Whether this is indeed justifiable by my faith, I have yet to discover. I have made the relevant inquiries and I'll let you know what I find.

However, in the imminence of a real-world situation, who knows what I might do :)

It is a bit of a stretch to say that the dichotomy as created in the MST is run-of-the-mill.. most situations in life are likely to be more fuzzy. Hence the inability to fully codify a someone's approach to such dilemmas?

I say obligatory. What would you do?

Then and again, that's likely to be affected by the presence of more biographical detail of the characters, for one.

If survivability was a dichotomy as defined by the question, would it change your answer then? :)

Is screaming and running a discrete moral issue?

So many questions!
